WHY CLIMATE CHANGE AND YOGA?
Climate Change is a serious symptom of a deeper problem. The human relationship to Earth and its life is abusive and exploitative. Earth’s life is not honored and respected, and the human impact on the planet has grown too heavy - leading to global warming and climate change, and also to a 6th mass extinction of species and widespread plastic and chemical pollution.
The great work of humanity at this time is to turn away from abuse and exploitation of the Earth, and become stewards instead, working with Earth’s natural healing powers to restore and sustain flourishing life for humans and all species.
Yoga is a system of powerful practices for transformation, and this ancient discipline is greatly needed at this time.
The objective of this program is to give participants knowledge and tools to find their unique role in the transformation of humanity’s relationship to Earth that must occur to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
Who is this program for?
The program is available to yoga teachers and others wanting a deep understanding of how yoga can support a life of purpose and effective action on the root causes of global warming and climate change.
Yoga teachers may earn Continuing Education hours needed for ongoing Yoga Alliance certification.
MEET THE PROGRAM LEADER
Galen Tromble is a yoga teacher and climate activist living in Maryland. Galen agrees with Naomi Klein that “the solution to global warming is not to fix the world, it is to fix ourselves,” and with Donna Farhi that we need to move from a perspective of separation to one of connection. Seeing ourselves as separate from nature, we have pushed Earth’s climate out of balance, with consequences that we don’t fully understand but which are certain to fall heavily on future generations. Galen founded ClimateYogi in 2018, believing that the ethical principles and transformative practices of yoga can help people wake up to their connection and interdependence, and to engage in the positive action needed to bring Earth’s climate back into balance.
