What Kind of World?

What kind of world do you want to live in and leave for future generations?

I ask this question often, and I’ve never had anyone answer “One just like we have.”

I’ve also never had anyone answer “A world with more pollution, less life, more disease, and more social injustice.”

The worldwide covid-19 pandemic has brought many changes. Schools and businesses are closed, economic activity has slowed, travel has decreased. Many people have lost their source of income. Many of the impacts are challenging, especially to people already struggling to make ends meet. In the Yoga community, many studios are closed, teachers have lost their income entirely or have tried to shift to online teaching with varied degrees of success.

While acknowledging the pain of the disruption, we can be open to opportunities to help others, and to shift the direction that our lives, and the world around us, is going in.

Knowing that our life is actually lived in the flow of the present, where every thought, choice and action occurs, we can see that we create the future by how we live in the present.

As we live in the flow of the present through these days, as turbulent as it sometimes is, if we hold our answer to the question, “What kind of world do you want to live in and leave for future generations?” as an intention, it will guide us to choices that will move our life, and the world, in that direction.

I invite you to comment on this post, and share your answer to the question: “What kind of world…” as well as any observations about the impact of the pandemic on you or your community.
